How can I express an interest/find out more information surrounding a course?
Do I need fencing kit for the course?
Yes, you do need equipment for the course.
This can be purchased at a discounted rate through British Fencing. We also appreciate that some Uniformed Groups will need to apply for funding to purchase equipment. If this is the case, please let us know and we can arrange for equipment hire for the course.
We would also recommend seeing if there are any other Uniformed Groups in your area who you could share the purchase of equipment with.

How long will the course take?
The 1 day Core Coach course is approximately 8 hours long and delivered in a single day. Default timings are 9am – 5pm, with an hour break for lunch, but it’s possible to adjust them to your needs.
What are the minimum requirements and how many leaders can attend the course?
Candidates must be 18 or older to receive a Core Coach award.
To guarantee the quality and safety of the course, we limit the number of candidates to a minimum of 6, and a maximum of 12.
Please note that if you have more leaders, we may have the capacity to run more than one course. If you are struggling to fill the minimum number (6), we would encourage you to reach out to uniformed groups in the area, who may also be interested in attending the course.
Do I need fencing or coaching experience to take part?
No – you don’t need any previous experience with fencing to attend the Core Coach course.
What will I learn from the course?
The course content includes the fundamentals of fencing and para fencing, coaching techniques, game etiquette and lesson plans.
Does the course allow you to deliver plastic or metal fencing?
Plastic. As you progress through your delivery, and if you are interested in developing your coaching skills, or connecting with a local club, we can support you in progressing onto metal delivery in the future.
What activities can I deliver as a Core Coach?
The lesson plans included in the course can be delivered as as one-hour weekly sessions in your group meetings.
These lessons are games-based and ideal for beginners, having their first contact with fencing in real life. They are suitable for all ages and can be adapted for people with different abilities.
You will be able to run truly engaging sessions, capturing participants’ imagination and creativity and proving that fencing is a fun, accessible sport anyone can try.
