SwordSeat™ Purchase FAQ

If you have a question about the purchase and delivery of the SwordSeat or the SwordSeat Printed Pattern, please read the FAQ below first before contacting us.

What comes with the Read-Made SwordSeat?

You’ll receive all 14 pieces that go to make up the SwordSeat, enough for two people to sit facing each other to fence together. This includes the angle measure spacer that is used to set the distance and correct fencing angle as per the World Para Fencing Rules.

Does the Ready-Made SwordSeat come painted or varnished at all?

No, the Ready-Made SwordSeat comes unpainted and unvarnished from the manufacturer.
We have been using the prototypes for over a year as bare wood, and they are showing no signs of wear as yet; however, if you want to protect your SwordSeat or showcase your club colours, feel free to paint, varnish, or oil your SwordSeat as you see fit.

What comes with the Printed Pattern?

The printed pattern comes in an A0 postage tube. There will be three A0 posters inside with the pattern printed on them, and you will also receive two A4 pages with information to help you make the build. If you need more support on building your own, please refer to our web page – http://britishfencing.com/explore-fencing/fencing-101/disability-fencing-101/swordseat/make-your-own/

What if I use a different wood to build my own from the Pattern?

Our engineers and Safety Committee have agreed that the wood should be 25mm Far Eastern Ply or better. If you use a lesser type of wood, you won’t be covered by the BF fencing insurance to use the SwordSeat.

What else do I need to use the SwordSeat™?

To complete your SwordSeat, making it sturdy and comfortable to fence with  you’ll need to source the following additional items, which will come to approximately £85 (depending on where you purchase them from) –

  • 4 heavy-duty ratchet straps
  • 2 reasonably firm wheelchair cushions (16 by 18 by 3 inches)
  • Neoprene tape for the floor contact points
  • Double-sided Velcro for the cushion attachments
  • Tennis tape for the handle
  • A little sandpaper to keep splinters at bay

When will my Ready-Made SwordSeat arrive?

Initially, as we build up stock, delivery will take two to three weeks from receipt of payment. Once stock is in place, delivery times will depend on location and the amount of stock we currently hold, but should be within 5 days of payment. You will be informed by email if that timeline shifts.

When will my Pattern arrive?

We aim to manage postage within 3-5 days following payment. The package will arrive as an A0 tube (approximately 86cm long) shortly thereafter.
