The Worshipful Company of Cutlers

The Cutlers’ Company is one of the most ancient of the City of London livery companies and received its first Royal Charter from Henry V in 1416. Its origins are to be found among the cutlers working in the medieval City of London in the vicinity of Cheapside. Their business was producing and trading in knives, swords, and other implements with a cutting edge. Over time the emphasis shifted from implements of war to cutlery and other domestic wares such as razors and scissors. (For more information please visit the Cutler’s website here.)

The Worshipful Company of Cutler’s began it’s affiliation with British Fencing in 2006.  Since then they have made an annual prize of £300 to the winner of the Women’s British Cadet Foil Championship, and a Company’s award to a person and/or team of people who has made a major contribution to the sport.

In the case of Teams, prize money is granted to the club/programme nominated by the fencers or coaches in recognition of the work that they do to support fencing.
