U23 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018 REPORT

The British team competing in Yerevan, Armenia 15-19 April consisted of three athletes.

Individual Women’s Epee

The field of fifty-nine athletes included Elizabeth Powell from Great Britain.  She won four of her six first round fights, progressing to the direct elimination stages ranked eighteenth.  A bye through the round of 64 was followed by defeat 15-12 to World number 125, Yuliya Svystil (UKR).

Aleksandra Zamachowska of Poland beat Italian Roberta Marzani to claim the title as Kim Jasmin Beuch of Switzerland and Russian Maria Obraztsova shared the bronze medal position.

Individual Women’s Foil

Mhairi McLaughlin was the sole British representative in a field of thirty-five in this event.  She won one of her six first round fights and did not qualify for the elimination stages.

Italian Martina Sinigaglia won the title by beating Maria Boldor of Romania in the final as the bronze medals were awarded to Itlaian Elisabetta Bianchin and Eva Lacheray of France.

Women’s Individual Foil Results

Individual Men’s Foil

The field of forty-eight in this event included Alexander Lloyd who represented Great Britain.  He did not win any of his six first round matches and was eliminated.

Kirill Borodachev of Russia took the title by beating Frenchman Wallerand Roger.  The bronze medals were claimed by Uladzislau Lahunou of Belarus and Russian Alexandr Sirotkin.

Men’s Individual Foil Results

The athletes have all been supported to attend the event through a donation from Imperium Investments to the BF Charity.
