BF is delighted to announce the U23 Squad for the upcoming Championships which will be held in Tallinn, Estonia from the 27 to 31 May 2022.
At the selection meeting, it was reaffirmed with the selectors that selection for U23 Europeans is based on meeting the qualification standard and fencers not meeting the qualification standard could be selected by the team selection.
As the pandemic has impacted fencers being able to attend international competitions, for this season 2021-2022, the panel agreed to recognise those fencers who would be predicted to meet the qualifying standard based on trajectory performance.
Congratulations to all the athletes and their coaches.
Athletes selected (listed alphabetically by surname):
|MF||DE ALMEIDA Dominic||Accepted|
|WS||MAXWELL Caitlin (Q)||Accepted|
|WS||ROBBINS WILKINSON Ellen||Declined|
Q = Qualified, P = Predicted qualification, T = Selected via the Team (Those selected via the team will be expected to work with their coach and the ADP team to review training plans to agree improvement areas.)

We are aware that the timing of this announcement coincides with some athletes competing at the Cadet and Junior Europeans. This selection has been published in a timely manner to allow for those competing to book travel and make preparations.
Where there is disappointment to manage, we would request that all parents and coaches support open conversations which form an important aspect of the athlete development journey and will provide the opportunity to better understand the selection decision and the route to future selection.
Whilst we understand that selection decisions can generate significant emotion, we would ask that parents and coaches do not behave in ways that might constitute abuse or harassment to BF staff, selectors and coaches. This includes repeated calling, messaging, emailing and making personal threats. Any such behaviour will be reported for disciplinary action.
