WILLIS, USHER & MCLELLAN AT 2026 SENIOR EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2026 Senior European Championships in Antony, France are underway. BF’s Competition Manager, Jon Willis, is appointed by the European Fencing Confederation (EFC) to DT. Sam McLellan has been selected as a referee, and BF’s CEO Georgina Usher is at the event in her capacity as Safeguarding Officer.

The EFC has appointed Jon Willis onto the Directoire Technique (DT) for this year’s Senior European Championships, which will be held in Antony, France, between the 16th and 20th June.

Jon has previously been President of DT for the 2025 and 2024 Cadet (U17) and Junior (U20) European Championships. His previous DT appointments include the 2019 and 2023 U23 European Championships, the 2020 Cadet & Junior Championships, the 2022 Senior European Championships and the 2023 European Games, as well as the 2024 Cardiff Wheelchair Fencing World Cup. He said upon his selection:

 

Sam McLellan has been appointed to referee at the event for the first time, having passed his FIE sabre refereeing exam in 2022. Sam has also been selected for the EFC Master List for both the 2025-26 and 2024-25 seasons, and was a referee at this year’s Cadet and Junior World Championships in Rio.

Sam is part of the BF Referee Pathway Programme, which is supported by funding from UK Sport.

 

Georgina Usher, BF CEO, is Safeguarding Officer at the event. Georgina was recently the  FIE Safeguarding Officer at this year’s Cadet and Junior World Championships.
