The largest British Youth Championships (BYCs) since Covid took place in Sheffield, over the 2026 bank holiday weekend. A round-up of the weekend, including links to results, photos, and videos.

The British Youth Championships (BYCs) take place annually over the first May bank holiday weekend, this time falling on 2nd-4th May. Like last week’s British Senior and Para National Championships and GB Cup, the BYCs took place at the EIS Sheffield.

The BYCs have grown year on year, with thousands of young fencers attending from all over the country. A record 1,278 fencers took part in this year’s event, competing for a total of 64 medals across different age and weapon categories. Fencers enter via regional qualifying competitions, held by each region. A breakdown of the eligibility and entry process can be found on the event webpage.
The BYCs provided a safe and fun environment for fencers from across the country. Some fencers were aiming for medals or defending their titles from previous years, and for others, this was their first experience taking part in the BYCs.

There were 60 referees in total who made this year’s BYCs possible. Some were FIE-qualified or from overseas, and some were refereeing at their first BYCs – a major step in their referee development journey.
We’d like to thank our referees, DT, volunteers, armoury, medical team, and our partners at Leon Paul for supporting the event.
