SafeGuard Core

This course provides essential safeguarding training for anyone listed on any BF Workforce Register. It explores why safeguarding is a core responsibility within fencing and how it underpins a safe, positive environment for all.

Who is the course for?

  • Essential training for anyone with a role within fencing.

Course Format

  • Duration: 3hours
  • Delivery: Live, interactive session delivered face‑to‑face via Zoom

Entry Requirements

  • Participants must be 16 years of age or older

What will you learn?

By the end of this course, you will:

  • Understand that SafeGuarding is everybody’s responsibility
  • Understand  that SafeGuarding runs through everything that BF and its membership are engaged with
  • Understand how to build and maintain a safe and inclusive culture
  • Develop a clear understanding of the 4 R’s and how to apply them in practice

 

SafeGuard Welfare Officer

Building on SafeGuard Core, this course provides essential safeguarding training for anyone who is a Club or event Welfare Officer.  It explores how safeguarding is central to every role within fencing and how welfare officers and volunteers contribute to a safe, person-centered environment.

  • Essential training for Club Welfare Officers
  • Essential training for Event Welfare Officers
  • Of interest to Team Managers

Course Format

  • Duration: 3hours
  • Delivery: Live, interactive session delivered face‑to‑face via Zoom

Entry Requirements
Participants must be 18 years of age or older

What will you learn? 

This course aims to:

  • Describe how a club or event welfare officer works with others to create a participant-centred environment.
  • Explain how the club welfare officer role fits into the wider safeguarding environment.
  • Apply your learning to case studies, including identifying and sharing good safeguarding practice

 

SafeGuard Event Welfare Officer

This course has been developed specifically for people who will be providing safeguarding cover at competitions and events. It will help Event Welfare Officers to understand their role and their safeguarding responsibilities to contribute to a safe event space.

Who is the course for?

  • Essential training for Event Welfare Officers
  • Of interest to Team Managers

Course Format

  • Duration: 3hours
  • Delivery: Live, interactive session delivered face‑to‑face via Zoom

Entry Requirements
Participants must be 18 years of age or older

This course aims to:

  • Identify what an event welfare officer does
  • Describe how an event welfare officer works with others to create a safe fencing event for everyone
  • Identify the tasks and roles before, during and after an event
  • Apply learning to case studies including sharing good safeguarding practice

SafeGuard University Welfare Officer Training

A bespoke course tailored to address the unique aspects of university clubs. The University Welfare Officer (UWO) supports, along with others, the welfare and safety of individuals within the university setting. This course is for university fencers or club committee members.

Who is the course for?

  • Essential training for those supporting a university club

Course Format

  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Delivery: Live, interactive session delivered face‑to‑face via Zoom

Entry Requirements

  • Participants must be 18 years of age or older

 

This course aims to:

  • Identify what a University Welfare Officer does.
  • Describe how a University Welfare Officer works with others to create a positive culture.
  • Outline responsibilities for adults at risk.
  • Increase awareness of mental health concerns.
  • Explain how the club welfare officer role fits into the wider safeguarding environment.
  • Apply learning to case studies including sharing good safeguarding practices.
