The cadet Great Britain Men’s Foil team took to the piste in Cabries, France at the weekend finishing in a credible seventh position.

From a field of 48, the team, comprising of John Feaster, Daniel Kiss and Kamal Minott won both of their first round matches – 45-19 vs Rouen & 45-37 vs Sweden.  A comprehensive 45-27 over Chambery CE in the round of 32 followed by a 45-34 victory against Japan 2 in the round of 16 meant that the team faced France 2 in the quarterfinals.  After an extremely hard fought contest the home team edged it 45-42.

The French number 2 team lost an extremely tight gold medal match 45-44 to Japan 1 to take the silver medal.  France 1 beat Russia 3, 45-31 to take bronze.

Speaking after the event, Team Manager, Linda Strachan said; “It was a fantastic result brought about by great determination, good team spirit and support from coaches Pierre Harper and Glen Golding.”

Head of Pathway Development, Joanna Cook added; “With teams from Asia, Europe and the USA this was a truly competitive field.  The hard work from both coaches and Team Managers, Nickie Bailey and Linda Strachan played a big part as well as the effort from the fencers.  The future is looking good for these young foilists who are sure to be hot on the heels of those in the senior programme in the near future.”
