British Fencing, the National Governing Body for Fencing, is seeking a Coaching Development Manager to join the senior Management team. Following an increase in funding from Sport England and the continued support of UK Sport for the World Class programme, British Fencing have decided to put in place a Coaching Development Manager. The purpose of the post is to create a coaching development programme that empowers and supports a network of coaches and leaders that will help grow the sport at a grass root level.  In addition the aim will be to lead coaching excellence at every stage of the coach pathway.  This is central to the delivery of a highly successful world-class fencing programme.

Reporting to the Development Director and Performance Director, the Coach Development Manager will conduct a major review of the current Coaching Development Programme. They will, make strategic and operational recommendations and then implement a change management plan so that British Fencing can deliver its overall growth strategies and continue to maximise performance at Podium level.

He or she will contribute to the achievement of the organisations objectives and targets, through the following:

  • Increasing the number and quality of active leaders and coaches committed to continuous improvement;

  • Sharing British Fencing’s coaching expertise and experience, through the coaching networks in Great Britain (UK Sport, Sport England);

  • Continually apply customer insight to the coaching development programme, so that coaching meets the needs of all participants across the spectrum of fencing environments;

The successful candidate will have significant proven experience of coaching development and educated to degree level.  Preferably they would have a Sport Science and Sport Medicine Degree or other sporting or educational qualification.  They will have experience of working with high performance coaches and thorough understanding of the coaching landscape in the sports sector. They will also have demonstrated that they can work with leading organisations in public sector sport, such as Sport England and UK Sport.

He or She will be highly skilled in finding effective solutions and will be a persuasive influencer with strong relationship building skills.  The role requires experience of reviewing, analysing, planning and implementing a complex programme of work within a multi-disciplinary team and within agreed timelines.

A sound knowledge of sport from grass roots through to the elite level would be an advantage.
