BF delivered the first Leadership Through Fencing programme – created in partnership with the Leadership Skills Foundation – at Crown Hills Community College in Leicester.

Leadership Through Fencing was launched in the beginning of April 2026, in partnership with the Leadership Skills Foundation. The programme was delivered to 14 pupils at Crown Hills Community College in Leicester on 13th April 2026, as part of the programme’s launch. Crown Hills Community College has been partnered with BF for several years as our Official Training Partner, delivering fencing activities to their pupils.

During the day, the students engaged in a four-hour session with Ev van Gemeren, a member of BF’s Fencing Development Team. They took part in theoretical and practical exercises, gaining a better understanding of the skills required to be a Fencing Leader. One of the activities also included a focus on seated fencing, allowing participants to deliver more inclusive sessions.

Mohammed, one of the participants, started fencing at Crown Hills Community College last year and won bronze at the British Youth Championships. He said that he completed the Leadership Through Fencing programme to ‘develop leadership skills, alongside [his] resilience, confidence and teamwork skills’.

What is Leadership Through Fencing, and who is it for?
BF, in partnership with the Leadership Skills Foundation, has launched a new Leadership Through Fencing programme. Aimed at 11- to 17-year-olds, the programme provides a one-day training session from BF’s Fencing Development Team, where participants will learn practical tools to be empowered leaders which can be demonstrated through fencing. After the training, participants will be able to run fencing sessions in their local schools, clubs or communities while enhancing their leadership skills, with an award at the end. The programme is ideal for schools, activity providers, Scout groups, clubs and leisure centres.
Leadership Through Fencing supports students to become active members in their communities by focusing on five key leadership skills:
