GREAT BIG GREEN WEEK 2026

As part of the Great Big Green Week 2026 (GBGW). BF encourages clubs and members to get involved with environmental and sustainability schemes.

BF encourages clubs, coaches, athletes and members to get involved with The Great Big Green Week, an initiative dedicated to helping communities tackle climate change and protect nature in their local areas, organised by the Climate Coalition.

Read more information on the GBGW 2026 here.

The Climate Coalition are the UK’s largest group of people and organisations dedicated to tackling climate change and the restoration of nature, bringing together organisations such as the National Trust and the Women’s Institute to help secure a healthier future for the UK.

Ways to Get Involved in GBGW 2026:

BF and Sustainability

At the 2026 British Youth Championships in Sheffield, we invited competitors, coaches and other participants to donate surplus fencing kit at the environmental sustainability stand. All donations were checked allowing kit in need of refurbishment to go to Leon Paul whilst kit deemed to be unsafe was recycled.

There will be another opportunity to donate any reusable kit at the Cadet and Junior National Championships in September.

Clubs and fencers are also encouraged to reuse and repurpose as much old fencing kit as they can and to donate to the BF Charity.

Through BF’s Green Piste – Environmental Sustainability initiative, members and volunteers are encouraged to take practical steps to reduce environmental impact and support a more sustainable future for the sport.

As part of the Green Piste – Environmental Sustainability scheme, BF is now Sustainable Travel Leave accredited employer. Sustainable Travel Leave is a high-impact climate action that directly cuts carbon emissions and helps both individuals and organisations to substantially reduce their impact on the planet.

Planet LP

BF’s partner Leon Paul’s own environmental scheme ‘Planet LP,’ focuses on sustainability through being a carbon neutral company and also by planting trees and using 100% recycled card, paper and using fully compostable bags in packaging.

Planet LP also partners with Carma to ensure that for every order Leon Paul receives and for every new fencer who joins their club.
