Tbilisi Travel Guide

To ensure sufficient event preparation and orientation time, the expected days before competition day would be two full days, plus the day of arrival.

This allows the fencer to recover from travel-related exhaustion, visit the venue, complete weapons control, sort out any kit issues and undertake final preparations before the competition.

Entry Points for this competition are below:

A WhatsApp group will be created, and athletes will receive the invite link.

Hotel – Hilton Garden Inn Tbilisi

BF has made advance bookings for athletes and designated support staff. Personal coaches need to make independent bookings in that hotel (please note that family members are not permitted to book into the team hotel)

Fencers who plan to arrive before or exit after the stated accommodation for the entry and exit points MUST source their accommodation. BF cannot provide additional accommodation nights for athletes.

All hotel rates are per room per night, including breakfast, based on entry and exit points.

Anticipated Costs

• Individual Entry Fees: £55 pp (Covered by the FIE)
• Team Entry Fees: £118 (Covered by the FIE)
• Hotel Costs: 8 nights stay at £60 per person per night for twin rooms.
• Contribution to Chef de Mission and Team Manager costs: £90
• Admin fee: £30 (usually these admin fee is £50 but has been reduced due to costs incurred by athletes for this competition)
• Media services: £30 (includes cost of in-event photography, images licensed for personal use)

GBR Pathway Funding

The GBR Pathway Programme will be funding the costs to athletes of competing at the Worlds, including contributions to:

• Coaches
• Sports science and medicine
• Team competition entry fees

There are also means tested grants available to athletes who would be unable to attend without financial support. For more information please contact [email protected]. Athletes who are paying for personal coaches or whose families are planning to travel to attend the event are not eligible for grants.

PATCHES/LOGOS

It is your responsibility to ensure your kit has the correct logos/patches and your equipment meets FIE standards.

As part of the terms of the Leon Paul sponsorship arrangement, all athletes competing are required to wear a Leon Paul logo.

• being up to date on the coach register
• having met the qualification standard for selection
• having completed the UKAD Anti-Doping course and uploaded the certificate to Sport 80
• holding a valid EFC Licence.
• consistently demonstrating suitable coaching behaviours and are not currently being investigated
• having an up-to-date Coach Health Check – Personal Development Plan
• being the coach of a fencer in selection places 1-4

DISCIPLINE AND BEHAVIOUR

By accepting selection to represent GBR at any European and World Championships, you have already agreed to the British Fencing Codes of Conduct. Please act responsibly and sensibly, and understand that we are one collective team. Respect and support for your fellow team members are expected and reasonable. In addition, every squad member is supported by public funding and is likely to behave in a way that recognises the responsibilities that this brings. Funding to compete (whether from public or private sources) is not an entitlement, and we owe it to everyone who contributes to our participation to act as professionals and role models for our sport.

As a reminder, U23  Championships events are alcohol-free for the entire duration of the stay, and any athlete consuming alcohol should expect to serve a ban in accordance with the published sanctions. Parents and Personal Coaches attending events are expected to support athletes and are respectfully requested to refrain from consuming alcohol if they are in the company of athletes.

Any breach of the BF Code of Conduct may result in fines equivalent to any athlete subsidy paid by BF.

There will be testing at the event.

Athletes are solely responsible for any banned substance they use, attempt to use, or that is found in their system, regardless of how it got there and whether or not they had an intention to cheat. Athletes must:

• Ensure they have TUEs in place if necessary
• Use the Global DRO portal to check medication
• Download the 100% me Clean Sport App (Apple, Android)

Please ensure you have met the relevant Athlete, Coach, Parent/Supporter Training mandatory requirements. 

There will be FIE Safeguarding Officers at the event and the FIE Safeguarding policy and the EFC Safeguarding Code of Conduct will be in place for all participants.

BF welfare policies and codes of conduct apply to athletes, coaches, parents and supporters associated with the GBR team.

There will also be mandatory training (which includes specific training on the FIE safeguarding policy) for all those selected and those that intend to accompany them.

Athletes who are selected for major championships are encouraged to use the hashtag #GBRFencing on social posts.

Athletes, parents and coaches are encouraged to share their journey and experiences of major competitions. All social media content relating to this competition falls under the BF Code of Conduct. Please remember to ensure all images of fencing, including warming up and coaching reflect best practices in regards to conduct and safety.

Where podium photos or group photos are taken those in the photo are requested to look at the camera.

All athletes that make a podium will be expected to provide a quote prior to the medal presentation to help the BF media team celebrate the result in a timely manner.
