OVERVIEW

This page provides an overview of athletes who currently meet the qualification standards for selection to represent GBR at European and World Championships. These standards are set by the BF Pathway team, approved by the BF Board, and shared with our funding partners as indicators of performance levels required for consideration.

For the full qualification standards and how they are calculated, please refer directly to the BF Selection Policy, available
here.

Meeting the qualification standard does not guarantee selection for major championships. It forms the initial basis from which eligible athletes may be considered, and selections will always be made in line with the published Selection Policy.

SELECTION FOR MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Selection for individual events at European and World Championships begins with athletes who have achieved the necessary qualification standards. These standards differ by weapon and age group, and all athletes and coaches are encouraged to review the relevant policy and plan competition schedules accordingly.

EXTRACT FROM THE SELECTION POLICY

Excluding Cadet World Championships: If more than three eligible athletes have reached the qualifying standard for the European & World Championships, then the first three athletes on the respective BF ranking list will be selected. The fourth athlete and any non-travelling reserve will be selected/proposed by the ADT, at their discretion. These will normally be selected from any remaining qualified athletes using a combination of assessing comparative qualification standards and discretionary factors, except in Seniors where in the case that an athlete with recent Senior qualification form fails to make a standard due to significant injury/illness or pregnancy, the ADT reserve the right to propose that athlete for either place (instead of a qualified athlete), subject to that athlete being able to demonstrate a return to fitness.

CURRENT QUALIFICATION STATUS

A regularly updated table showing athletes who have achieved or are close to achieving qualification standards, can be found here.

DISCRETIONARY APPLICATIONS

A discretionary application may be submitted when:

  • An athlete has not met the qualification standard
  • More athletes have qualified than the number of direct selection places available
