Immediate Actions

If you think you might be selected (Juniors) or have been selected (Cadets) here are some steps to take now:

  • Check that your email address in the BF membership platform is up to date as we will be using this to contact you – https://bf.sport80.com/.
  • Check your passport will be valid for dates of travel.
  • Check your travel insurance – note that we have been alerted to potential issues with Sports Cover Direct policies where athletes (eg those in receipt of scholarships and grants) may be deemed professional and are therefore not covered. Please contact your insurance provider to confirm that you are sufficiently covered in your current financial and training circumstances.
  • If you haven’t already, start saving money! The deadline to pay after selections are confirmed will be extremely short so you should try and make sure you have money ready to transfer from 6.1.2019.
  • If your personal coach wishes to attend please ask them to follow the instructions below.
  • Do not book flights or accommodation – please read the travel information at the bottom of the page.

British Airways hand baggage sizes and weight limitations British Airways checked baggage sizes and weight limitations

23kg will be enough for your fencing bag, providing you pack your fencing kit in your carry on case. Do not take liquids or gels in your hand luggage. (100mls or under in a transparent bottle is OK).   Do not take tool kit items in your hand luggage.  Please put your mask, jacket, plastron, breeches, glove, socks, and a spare handle (if you have one) in your hand luggage in case any fencing bags get lost.  This means that all you need to borrow to fence is a sword if the worst happens. Make sure you travel in comfortable clothing,  wear trainers to travel in. Do not wear any GBR clothing whilst traveling.

Ensure that ALL your electronic equipment (phone, etc) is fully charged, and can be shown to be working. If it isn’t, it may be confiscated at security.

Independent Travel: Athletes unable to travel from London airports (eg athletes travelling from outside the UK) are permitted to choose to travel independently however they must not arrive on a later date or leave on an earlier date than the rest of the squad. Transfers can be arranged with the competition organisers via BF for independent travellers from Bari airport or Foggia station. Please note BF are unable to arrange transfers from Naples for independent travellers due to safety and security reasons.

In the event that not all the seats on the group bookings (flight and transfers)are required BF will make these available to personal coaches and parents. If you are interested in applying for one of these please email [email protected].

Daily Transfer

There will be a daily transfer provided by the competition organisors. All the details will be available at the hotel info point and at the info point of the competition venue.
