Two judo players, a tennis player and a fencer are the winners of the latest Team Bath athlete of the month awards, demonstrating the breadth of sporting talent at the University of Bath.

Judo player Natasha Maslen is one of the two award winners for February. The Sports Performance student won her award for taking individual gold in the women’s under-70kg class competition at the British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) Championships. She also helped the University of Bath team win team silver.

Fencer Chris Hay, a Biology student and Santander sports scholar at the University, won the men’s award for February after taking epee gold at the BUCS Championships.

Judo player Ben Fletcher collected the men’s award for March after winning medals at three major international tournaments on successive weekends.  He started with gold at the Pan American Open in Uruguay, followed by bronze at the Pam Am Open in Argentina and then bronze at the European Cup in Bosnia.

And the women’s award for March went to Team Bath MCTA Tennis Academy player Lisa Whybourn, who won the women’s doubles title partnering Germany’s Nicola Geuer at the Aegon GB Pro-Series event at the University of Bath.

Each of the athletes of the month winners receive a piece of Oakley eyewear from leading stockist Ellis & Killpartrick Opticians of New Bond Street, Bath, and a framed certificate to mark their achievement.

Oakley UK Brand Ambassador Tyron Dawkins said: “The latest award winners once again demonstrate the breadth of sporting talent at the University of Bath. I’d like to congratulate them all on their achievements.”

Natasha and Chris received their awards yesterday (Thursday), but Ben is currently in Hungary for the European Championships and Lisa is competing in Thailand.
