Following the Senior Nationals, an update on what participants can expect going forward at all BF events.
BF has previously explored live streaming BF events using social platforms including Facebook live, and YouTube, and also used OTT (over the top) service ReCast.
ReCast proved difficult to access for some viewers, and across platforms, live streaming viewing figures are comparatively low compared to replay views. With this in mind, in 2024 we moved the live streaming of events to British Fencing’s YouTube channel BritishFencingTV.
We are committed to live streaming the finals of events when possible.
In cases where live streaming is not available, due to venue, piste timings or technical issues, we will record the finals and upload to the BF YouTube channel as soon as feasibly possible, usually on the same day. This means there may be a small delay in the final being available, as the file is uploaded to our channel.
The exception to this is for events below the U17 age group. We are committed to providing a positive experience for younger fencers. With this in mind, younger age category finals are usually recorded and uploaded rather than streamed live, (for example, the BYCs).
Recently, at the BF Senior Nationals 2025, the Saturday finals were not posted immediately after the matches – this wasn’t the service we wanted to provide. We apologise for the delay, and loss of sound on some finals caused by technical issues on this occasion.
Going forwards, we continue to plan to live stream events in the first instance, and where this is not possible, we will record and upload the final in a timely manner.
