Bartlett, Bradbury, Causton, Kiy, Troiano & Wedge Top the Podium in Germany

Yesterday, the British Men’s Foil team won the Veterans World title in Germany beating Japan in the final.

The team included two fencers from each catergory – Cat A: Jeff Kiy & John Troiano; Cat B: Tony Bartlett & Paul Wedge; Cat C: Mike Bradbury & Brian Causton.  In a field of ten team, Great Britain beat France 30-13 and Hungary 30-28 in the first round, leaving them ranked second for the direct elimination stages.  That earned them a bye through the round of 16 before they eased past Australia 30-12 and Germany 30-18.  They faced Japan, the number one seeds, in the gold medal match and the British team led 15-13 at the half-way stage.  Troiano, Bartlett and Causton dominated the final three legs to take the title 30-24.

The Championships continues in Stralsund, Germany until 16 October.
