Sophie Troiano, one of Britain’s leading women’s foilists, has been appointed Foil Co-ordinator on the International Youth Committee. The Co-ordinator is responsible for leading, managing and acting as representative for the foil cadet and junior age groups.

For more than a decade, Sophie represented Great Britain at cadet, junior and senior level, including at European and World Championships. She competed at the London 2012 Olympic Games in both the individual and team women’s foil, and is currently ranked first in the British foil rankings. Sophie retired from her international career in the summer of 2013 to pursue her career and other interests.

She takes over the role from Paul Abrahams, who is stepping down to concentrate on his responsibilities on British Fencing Association Board. Sophie’s appointment is for a period of two years, and will begin on January 1, 2014. She will be supported by Mark Nelson-Griffiths, who continues as Assistant Foil Co-ordinator.

“I am really excited to have the opportunity to work with the cadet and junior foil squads,” said Sophie.“ I hope to bring my own experiences from fencing and beyond to help promote the weapon at these age groups.”
