UK Sport is set to begin the search for a new chair of the English Institute of Sport (EIS) following the announcement in June that Steve Cram MBE is to step-down after more than 10 years as head of the organisation.
The EIS – the science, medicine and technology arm of UK Sport – delivers a range of performance impacting sport science, sport medicine, technology and engineering solutions to Olympic and Paralympic sports along with a select number of non-Olympic sports. It worked with 93% of the sports and 86% of the athletes that won a medal at London 2012.
Established in 2002, the EIS now has more than 250 staff providing approximately 4,000 hours of sport science and medical support to over 1,700 athletes across the country and at camps and competitions overseas every week.
As a wholly owned subsidiary of UK Sport, the EIS has its own independent board, whose members bring a range of expertise from across both sport and business, providing strategic direction to the organisation as well as considering and directing recommendations put forward by UK Sport.
The new Chair will lead the Board and be responsible for the future development of the organisation. He or she will be work with National Director, Nigel Walker and his Senior Management Team to shape the way the EIS works with national governing bodies in continuing to provide performance solutions to their athletes and coaches.

“The role of Chair of the EIS is a hugely important one in providing the vision to help British Olympic and Paralympic sport stay ahead as other nations work hard to try and catch-up in time for Rio 2016.
“I would also like to thank Steve Cram for all his hard work during his time as EIS Chair.”
Applications for the role will close at 5pm on 9 September 2013, with UK Sport expecting to make an appointment in the autumn when Cram will hand over to his replacement.
