FENCING HIGHLIGHTS: VARNA, MUNICH

Fencing Highlights is a regular round-up of the latest stories and events from our community. In this snapshot, we take a look at the events that have recently happened or are taking place, including Varna U14 and Munich EVF.

Ratings

Well done to the fencers who achieved new ratings from competitions over the past week! You can see your rating via the UK Ratings website here. 

The BF Ratings Scheme is a great way to get a clear progression path to improve your fencing, and easily enter events that are suitable for your experience level.

Varna Round-up

Well done to our U14 fencers who took part in the EFC Epee competition in Varna, Bulgaria!

Congratulations to Jagoda Zegan who won silver in the epee event!

Afterwards, Jagoda said:

“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone at St Paul’s School for Girls but especially to Dr. Casserly for all the support and encouragement.”

European Veterans Fencing Circuit, Munich

GBR veterans achieved success at the European Veterans Fencing Circuit competition, which took place on 6th-7th December 2025 in Munich, Germany.

Congratulations to Jean-Pierre Le Borgne, who claimed victory in the Men’s Foil Category 3 (60-69) event! In the Women’s Sabre Cat 3 event, Michele Narey won silver and Lynn Williams bronze. Peter Wright also won bronze in the Men’s Sabre Category 2 (50-59) event.

The following day, Beth Cranston-Selby claimed bronze in the Women’s Sabre category 2 competition, and Chris Cranston-Selby silver in the Men’s Sabre Category 4 (70+).
