This year’s British Open Championships weekend – with Senior, Wheelchair, and U14 events – took place on 4th-5th July in Sheffield. A round-up of the weekend, including links to results, photos, and videos.
The British Open Championships have taken place annually since their introduction in 2023, becoming a staple in the BF events portfolio. This year’s competition took place on 4th-5th July at EIS Sheffield, and featured Senior, Wheelchair, and U14 events.
Unlike the Senior and Para National Championships earlier in the year, the Open Championships were open to all BF Compete members. This means that those not eligible to compete for GBR, including international visitors, were welcome to enter.
The British Open Senior Championships is one of the most important competitions in the domestic season, offering a genuine opportunity to strengthen ranking position and make meaningful progress. The event carries a multiplier of 700, putting it on a par with a well-attended EFC or FIE satellite event.
The Wheelchair Open, in particular, welcomes both international fencers and those who aren’t classified under the Paralympic system. This means that people who aren’t wheelchair users day-to-day, but are fascinated by wheelchair fencing, can compete. The event is one of the top wheelchair fencing competitions in the UK.
The U14 Open event also returned for a second year. The event is the standout event in the U14 British Ranking Competition (BRC) calendar, with the highest domestic multiplier of 250. Results from this event can have a significant impact on ranking opportunities and seeding for the remainder of the season. The event also provides a supportive and fun environment for Under 14 fencers to fence competitively.
