Aside from the frame and chairs, equipment for wheelchair fencing does not differ significantly from standing fencing; day chairs or even static chairs can be used in early practice, and most clubs will have fencing equipment they are willing to loan out to new members.
While frames and bespoke built fencing wheelchairs can be expensive, British Fencing operates a frame loan scheme, details of which can be found here.
Our partners RMA Sport have created a reasonably priced Club Sport model fencing wheelchair that has a grip handle which is interchangeable so it can be used for both left-handed and right-handed fencers, it comes in three sizes and conforms to international competition standards (so long as the size you are using conforms to the maximum hip space ruling based on your body size). You can find out more and order the chair at their website – https://rmasport.com/fencing-wheelchair/
A number of clubs up and down the country are expanding their provision for wheelchair fencing – to find the nearest accessible club to you please use our club finder, located here.
