Immediate Actions

Check that you have a valid FIE Licence (for cadets that may be competing in the Junior event.)
Check you have a valid Passport – (an ‘expiry date’ at least three months after the day you plan to leave ).

Arrival & Departure

To support optimal performance for all Major Championships, fencers must arrive by the entry point to ensure sufficient event preparation and orientation time. For example, if competing on Saturday, athletes should arrive at the hotel by midday on Thursday at the latest. Departure is the day after the final event, often a Team event. Based on the location of the Championships, a travel assessment has been undertaken to confirm entry and exit points. Travel with Minors

  • Minors Accompanied by Adult – If a child under 18 is travelling with someone who is not a parent or a legal guardian, the supervising adult must have a written and signed statement certifying that they have parental consent for the child.

Booking will be for five nights in twin rooms
Group 1 – 20th Feb to 24th Feb
Group 2 – 21st Feb to 25th Feb
Group 3 – 24th Feb to 29th Feb
Group 4 – 25th Feb to 1st Mar

Fencers who plan to arrive before or exit after the stated accommodation for the entry and exit points MUST source their own accommodation. BF cannot provide additional accommodation nights for athletes.


Expected Costs 

  • Individual Entry Fees:  120 euros (payable in advance based on 2023 figures Cost )
  • Hotel Costs: most athletes should expect to pay for five nights and should budget around £80  B&B per night, based on a twin room
  • Staff (Chef de Mission ) Contribution: £90/athlete
  • Admin Fee £30

Subsidy

Athlete Development Programme Subsidy: The Athlete Development Programme will be subsidising the cost to athletes of competing at the Europeans, including:
a) paying for the balance of the Chef de Missions Athlete Support Staff to attend the event.
b) covering team entry fees (140 euros per team based on 2023 figures).
c) covering the cost of ADP Coaches.
d) covering the cost of well-being support.

Official Tracksuits

We will contact you to arrange the kit order if you do not have the official tracksuit for the 2024 Cadet and Junior European and World Championships.

Here is more information about which tracksuit you need, vouchers, and how to order additional kits. 

As a reminder by the FIE rules, the Official National Tracksuit must be worn in full on the podium. (Not club tracksuits, cycling shorts, leggings etc)

Patches/Logos

You are responsible for ensuring your kit has the correct logos/patches and that your equipment meets FIE standards.

All athletes competing must wear a Leon Paul logo as part of the Leon Paul sponsorship arrangement terms.

Social Media

Athletes selected for major championships are encouraged to use the hashtag #GBRFencing on social posts.

Athletes, parents, and coaches are encouraged to share their journeys and experiences of major competitions. All social media content for this competition falls under the BF Code of Conduct. Please ensure that all fencing images, including warming up and coaching, reflect best practices regarding conduct and safety.

Authorised Personal Coaches

ALL coaches must abide by the relevant BF policies, including GBR-Coaches-Policy-v1.6.pdf (britishfencing.com) and  http://britishfencing.com/uploads/files/coaches_code_of_conduct.pdf.

Deadline for applications: 8th February 2024

If the applications for accreditation of personal coaches for the cadets and juniors have exceeded the available applications, then accreditations will be awarded based on coaches:

  • being up to date on the coach register
  • having met the qualification standard for selection
  • having completed the UKAD Anti-Doping course and uploaded the certificate to Sport 80
  • holding a valid EFC Licence.
  • consistently demonstrating suitable coaching behaviours and are not currently being investigated
  • having an up-to-date Coach Health Check – Personal Development Plan
  • being the coach of a fencer in selection places 1-4

Discipline and Behaviour

By accepting Selection to represent GBR at any European and World Championships, you have already agreed to the British Fencing Codes of Conduct. Please act responsibly and sensibly and understand that we are one collective team, and respect and support for your fellow team members is expected and reasonable.

In addition, every squad member is supported by public funding and is expected to behave in a way that recognises the responsibilities that this brings. Funding to compete (whether from public or private sources) is not an entitlement, and we owe it to everyone who contributes to our participation to act as professionals and role models for our sport.

As a reminder, Youth events are alcohol-free for the entire duration of the stay, and any athlete consuming alcohol should expect to serve a ban following the published sanctions. Parents and Personal Coaches attending events are expected to support athletes and are respectfully requested to refrain from consuming alcohol if they are in the company of athletes.

Any breach of the BF Code of Conduct may result in fines equivalent to any athlete subsidy paid by BF.

 

Anti-Doping

There will be testing at the event.

Athletes are solely responsible for any banned substance they use, attempt to use, or that is found in their system, regardless of how it got there and whether or not they had an intention to cheat. Athletes must:

Safeguarding

FIE Safeguarding Officers will be at the event, and the FIE Safeguarding policy will be in place for all participants.

BF welfare policies and codes of conduct apply to athletes, coaches, parents and supporters associated with the GBR team.

There will also be mandatory training (which includes specific training on the FIE safeguarding policy) for all those selected and those who intend to accompany them.
