BF receives confirmation that the 2021 Senior European Championships, due to take place in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in October, have been cancelled.
Following the postponement of the championships in late April 21 to September 2021, it has been now officially been confirmed that the 2021 Senior European Championships which were scheduled to take place from October 14th in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, have been cancelled.
At this time we recognise how hard it is to restart international fencing in light of all the travel restrictions which affect different nations in different ways. Our thoughts are with our colleagues in Bulgarian Fencing Federation and the competition organising team who have worked so hard behind the scenes to host the event.
We would like to take this opportunity to recognise the 2021 GBR Senior European team and all their hard work and dedication which resulted in their selection to represent Great Britain at these Championships. We recognise that these athletes have been continuing to train hard in preparation for the event and we share their disappointment that this will not be the opportunity to measure progress and start the journey to Paris that it might have been.
Following consultation with the Olympic Team Manager and ADP Leads the relevant ADP Team member will be in contact with those athletes to discuss the implications of this cancellation on their Individual Development Plans as they prepare for the Senior international circuit restart.
To all those impacted by this news, please remember it is ‘OK to not be OK’. Please click here and reach out if you need to.
