2023 BF Board Election Announcement

Election opens for four Elected Board Director Positions following receipt of five valid Nominations by Head Office.

Following the recent election announcement, BF Head Office received five valid nominations for the four Elected Director vacancies.

Therefore in accordance with the previously published timetable, voting members (Starter, Recreational and Compete aged 18 and over) will receive their ballot papers via email on the 18th August. Voting will close 12 noon on the 11th September.

Nomination Committee Statement – The Nomination Committee welcomes the quality of skilled candidates who have put themselves forward for election and note that all candidates meet at least two of the advertised desired skills.  Thus in accordance with the byelaws the Nomination Committee statement is that ‘All candidates partially meet the advertised desired skills.’

 

Advertised/Desired Skills:

  • Fundraising/Accessing funds – in the public and not for profit, health and education sector
  • Commercial/Procurement – in the education sector
  • Financial Management/Accountancy/Corporate Finance
  • Experience of delivering Disability Sport Programmes


As a reminder:

The role description for the Board Director position is published on the BF website here. The Board encourages members to review this document and consider whether candidates have the capacity and experience to fulfil the role and responsibilities.

The Board advises members that for good governance purposes, it is essential to maintain a diverse Board of Directors that is representative of the BF membership.

Following the expiration of the current terms, active fencers in the 18-35 age group and females will be under-represented.

Key Dates

The timetable for the election with key dates can be seen on the Timeline Chart 2023.  As required by the Bye-laws, the Board has fixed the following dates for these elections:

Qualifying Date: Friday 11th August 2023 – is the date at which a member of British Fencing must be a “Qualifying Voting Member” in order to be eligible to vote in the election.

Under the Articles, a Qualifying Voting Member is any Member who is a fully paid-up Voting Member and whose name is entered on the Roll on the Qualifying Date.

In other words, if you want to vote in this election, you must make sure that by not later than the Qualifying Date shown above (Friday 11th August 2023) the British Fencing Head Office has your name entered in its records as a fully-paid up voting member.

Under the current rules, members in the following categories who are aged 18 or over are Voting Members: Compete, Recreational, Starter.

Closing Date: Monday 11th September 2023 is the closing date for voting.
